Serving the Song

Many years ago, I hosted an "Songwriters in the Round" event (now called “Serving the Song”) at the now defunct Cornelia Street Cafe.  I became very busy as a guitarist and stopped producing the shows.  After the pandemic, when things started opening up a bit in 2021, my pal Malcolm Gold asked me to do a duo show at the Bitter End and it got me excited about playing original music again.  Paul Rizzo, who books the Bitter End, has hounded me to keep booking these events.  Luckily, having a Broadway based schedule allows me to plan these dates on Sunday or Monday nights and it's becoming a great hang.  The goal of the In the Round is to have four, maybe 5, people who have been side musicians for other, more well known artists.  Many of these musicians write but rarely get the opportunity to play their own songs.  The beauty of this is, because the musicianship is at such a high level, everyone can accompany one another.  So the audience gets to hear 4 different voices,  supported by stellar players.  And then there's the banter... Audiences love it.  I've had some wonderful artists join:  Will Lee and Rich Pagano of Fab Faux fame (among others), Tash Neal, James Maddock, Erik Della Penna, Leo Sidran, KJ Denhert, Mary Lee Kortes, Rob Arthur, Jack Petruzzelli, Bette Sussman, Malcolm Gold, Adam Bernstein, Abbie Gardner and some of the cast from Almost Famous (Gerard Canonico, Matt Bittner, Jakeim Hart, Nick Connors).  It's a BLAST and a great way to start the week.

Next event:

4/2/24 with Rich Pagano, Anthony Krizan, Jim Keller and me!

The Marvelous Manhattan Mandolins

I have put together an eclectic group of musicians to form this project, including David Mansfield, Joe Brent, Peter Sachon, Liz Queler, Rick Snell and ME.  More VIP personnel TBA!  It is essentially a mandolin orchestra and we play all kinds of well known songs, but only on the mandolin.  Our first show is 4/29, 7pm at the Bitter End.  I am extremely excited about this.
